WORK TOGETHER TO REMOVE POTENTIAL CALTRANS FIRE HAZARD
On April 25, 2011, RPMT met with Los Alamitos Mayor Pro Tem Troy Edgar and City Manager Jeffrey Stewart. The purpose of the meeting was to discuss joining efforts in protecting children and pets from coyotes in our adjoining communities. RPMT raised the issue that the property behind Martha Ann which is owned by CalTrans and in the city boundaries of Los Alamitos was a fire hazard and posed possible danger to all Rossmoor Residents. This area has also plagued Rossmoor Resident by coyote dens, hunting, birthing then howling late night leaving Martha Ann Residents in fear for their families.
City Manager Jeffrey Stewart stated CalTrans was responsible for the maintenance of the property behind Martha Ann, adjacent to the I-605 Freeway. City Manager Stewart provided maps indicating boundary lines stating both Councilman Edgar and himself would immediately pursue this safety issue on behalf of Rossmoor Residents.
CalTran's Principal Assistant Bill Gilchrist met with RPMT and Los Alamitos Officials on two separate occasions and stated CalTrans was willing to remove the ground cover and dead trees. This was done to prepare for the installation of the 18 foot sound wall and landscaping in addition to the public safety issue (fire hazard).
RPMT Founders David & Rebecca Lara would personally like to thank Mayor Pro Tem Troy Edgar, City Manager Jeff Stewart, CalTran's Bill Gilchrist and RHA's Tom Fitzgerald for their involvement in keeping Rossmoor safe for kids and pets. We look forward to our future joint efforts with the City of Los Alamitos.
