REWARD REQUEST FOR
ROSSMOOR ACID BOMBERS
DENIED BY RHA BOARD MEMBERS

RPMT requested that an reward be issued to encourage residents to come forth to identify the alleged suspects that harassed and left acid bombs on Ms. Boatman's property.  We expressed concern that suspects be apprehend that left acid bombs that had the probability of blindness, deafness or could even be fatal if exploded.  Please note, each acid bomb has been evaluated by the OCSD as a "Felony" and the Rossmoor Acid Bomber(s) are still at large.   In response, Board President Gary Stewart has provided the following response:

The RHA Board of Directors would like to thank you for your attendance and input at our regular January Board meeting on January 15, 2013. The Board is always eager to hear from the citizens of Rossmoor about concerns or suggestions that they may have to improve our fine community. After discussion and deliberation by the entire Board of Directors here is our response to the suggestions you list below.

    1. Rather than RHA offering a reward for an individual occurrence, i.e. the event commonly referred to as the "Acid Bomb Incident", the Board feels that a better use of RHA resources would be to improve and strengthen our existing Neighborhood Watch program. In this way we feel that we could strengthen the entire community's ability to respond to future incidents of this type. The Board feels strongly that an excellent Neighborhood Watch Program is a key to crime prevention efforts in any community.

    2. In regards to a Crime Alertness Program, the Board feels that a multi-faceted educational approach for our residents is the best course of action. This approach would consist of an educational program for our residents that would furnish them with information on how to prevent crime in the community and also protect their personal property. The information dissemination system would be through the RHA eblast system, postings on the RHA website as well as articles in the RHA Newsletter. From time to time we may also schedule special public information meetings with local law enforcement officials to address the community at large about items of particular interest to the community. In this way, the Board feels, once again, that the greatest community wide effort could be achieved rather than just rely on a few banners around flood control channels. The Board does not feel the banners that you proposed would be effective in this regard.

Once again the Board thanks you for your participation and we encourage you to participate at our future meetings.

Sincerely, Gary Stewart, President- RHA Board of Directors

SEAL BEACH CAPTAIN OLSON
COMES TO THE RESCUE!
SEAL BEACH TOWN CENTER POTENTIAL ACCIDENT RISK:
Since CVS Drive-Thru opened, many residents have contacted RPMT about potential danger in this area:  The light turns green, motorists on the side of the CVS building blow the stop sign to catch the green light on Seal Beach Blvd.   The motorist leaving CVS has to slam on their brakes in fear of being side-swiped by the oncoming traffic.

RPMT brought this concern to City Manger Jill Ingram & Captain Olson of the Seal Beach P.D.   After meeting with property managers and owners, Captain Olson was successful in deterring the "wrongful death waiting to happen".  He requested a meeting with one of the owners of this property and luckily, he arrived early before Captain Olson.  When Captain Olson arrived he was informed by the frantic owner that he almost witnessed a "couple of" collisions. In the next two weeks CVS will now be making this a one way alley  along side their building.

THANK YOU CAPTAIN OLSON & JILL INGRAM for seeing to the safety of patrons/residents!

Dear Members:
At the request of our member, Steve, we have been asked to take a poll regarding the hiring of private security in Rossmoor.  Please participate in contributing to RPMT'S BLOG that has been created to voice your opinion.  Due to the increase in crime, it might be an avenue worth addressing in providing a strong security presence in our community.

Regarding the comment (concerning the article about "Leaving Rossmoor") made that it isn't a matter or kids not being raised right...I soooo disagree....parents are responsible for the acts of their children...teach ethics, inform about consequences for unacceptable behavior...teach them tolerance for cultural and religious differences...do what ever you need to do to teach them about diversity, and negative consequences of "bullying" in what ever level it is demonstrated.  As a parent it is our job to raise our children with ethical and moral standards; yes, sometimes there is a "bad seed", a child that good parents try desperately to reign in, but nothing works, but those instances are very few and far between.  I believe it is also our job as parents to be proactive, rather than in denial, if we notice our child has some kind of antisocial behavior, anger management issue, or psychological issue for which needs professional help.  Zoeann

Just a few comments on the last newsletter.
Re: Dog on a leash on your property; I'm guilty of walking my dog out to the sidewalk. Although I'm careful, I know it must make some people uncomfortable who walk by. I apologize and will stop immediately.
There's a woman who walks her dog down Chianti without a leash and it almost got my ShihTzu. She really didn't care. So, if you're reading this; leash your Irish Setter, please.  Take a picture with date/time and if you can, get her address.  We will contact the O.C. Animal Care, use our name/address and request that they speak with the off leash offender.  I believe 2nd time, they issue a $240 citation.  WE CARE!

Last Tuesday at 4:00 am, my truck was broken into - in the driveway. Re: mulch guy. He approached me on Saturday. I told him to "buzz off" kinda firm. Next time I'll be stronger.   We received this info from a member:  The 2/22 picture of the white truck with the two Hispanic males is of the man who sells mulch.  He has done work for me a number of times and is a very nice, hardworking man.  He comes to my house every few months unannounced to see if I want any work done.  He's just looking to make an honest living and I certainly appreciate that.

Re: lady that moved on Mainway: you'll find hatred everywhere. Might be worse wherever you end up. Never run. Cowards work through quiet terrorism - never up front. Rossmoor is great. A great place to live. Allowing a few to dictate the views of many is a travesty. I'd move back if I were that woman on Mainway.  We agree that hatred is every where.  However, if we as a community develop a ZERO TOLERANCE, report it and have OCSD act on it, we will maintain the community we know and love.  The acid bombers are still out there!

Re: private security; Maybe. I'm still out to lunch on that.
There are (parents) reading this who know their teenagers/young adults are up to no good. Wake up! And do something about it. If you can't, send me their names and I can help.
Go Rossmoor! Best community I've seen because we care.
Jim S.  Again, RPMT will be happy to post in our newsletter any video footage of the hoodie car burglars hoping someone will recognize them to report to the O.C. Sheriff.  Feel free to send it to us for posting so our members can view it and identify them to OCSD.

To the RPMT Team:
- I live next to the family that moved out because of the acid bomb/hate crime.  They were always very quiet and I never got to know them.  I am amazed that anyone would seek out to target them for any reason.  Regrettably I did not see the perpetrators nor did I hear any activity until the police came onto the scene.  Our family joins in apologies that this community owes these people.
- Regarding many of the criminal activities surrounding us it seems that much of it involves break-in of parked vehicles during the night.  It seems obvious that anyone parking in an open area should take responsibility to lock their vehicle.  We do not need to invite the criminal activity.  Whenever possible the owner should park their car(s) in the garage.   Almost all the original houses in the tract have 2 car garages.  Remodels often have room for 3 or more.  Sometimes the streets around here look like parking lots and cars sit for days.  Nearby there is a mobile home that has been parked for over a year.  Not only is this abuse a ticketable offense it also gives the whole neighborhood a trashy appearance.

I will be interested in reading about the private security initiative that you have mentioned but until we in the community can clean up our streets and take initiative to keep appearances in the streets defensible I feel reluctant to pay to protect the cars that make themselves a target.  In my 27 years on Mainway my house has been burglarized once prior to enclosing the property entirely with gating.  That burglar was apprehended after also robbing the Turf Motel and he was not local to this area.  Some criminal activity comes from within this neighborhood and parents need to be held accountable for their kids.  Many know who these offenders are and hope they just grow up and out of it.  Kudos to RPMT for bringing attention to crime.  I would humbly suggest that a good start might be to encourage everyone to get their cars off streets at night and not to use our streets as storage yards.  Not only is it an invitation to crime but also unsightly illegal and creates additional impediment to safe flow of traffic.

SENIOR DISCOUNTS By Carol Morgan:

Senior Discounts:
As I was waiting in line behind an older gentleman at Wendy's recently, I heard him ask for his senior discount. The girl at the register apologized and charged him less. When I asked the man what the discount was, he told me that seniors over age 55 gets 10% off everything on the menu, every day.
Being of 'that' age myself, I figured I might as well ask for the discount too. This incident prompted me to do some research, and I came across a list of restaurants, supermarkets, department stores, travel deals and other types of offers giving various discounts with different age requirements. I was actually surprised to see how many there are and how some of them start at the young age of 50 .
